=== Rapa Nui (Easter Island – Chile) === The study of TOR (Target Of Rapamycin) originated in the 1960s with the Medical Expedition to Easter Island (METEI) in 1964–1965 organized by Canadian scientist Stanley Skoryna, with the goal of identifying natural products from plants and soil with possible therapeutic potential. In 1972, Surendra Nath Sehgal identified a small molecule, from the soil bacterium Streptomyces hygroscopicus, that he purified and initially reported to possess potent antifungal activity. He named it rapamycin, noting its original source and activity. Early testing revealed that rapamycin also had potent immunosuppressive and cytostatic anti-cancer activity. Rapamycin did not initially receive significant interest from the pharmaceutical industry until the 1980s, when Wyeth-Ayerst supported Sehgal's efforts to further investigate rapamycin's effect on the immune system. == Financing and valuation == StoreDot raised over 6 million dollars in an initial investment round, and by the end of 2014 had raised another 42 million dollars. It raised another 62 million dollars by the end of 2017. The company was in negotiations in March 2021 for a SPAC merger at a $3.5 billion valuation. A further funding round of 70-80 million dollars in 2022 gave it a $1.5 billion valuation. The company plans as of 2023 to raise further capital in 2024 or 2025 in order to build up its silicon nanoparticles supply chain and secure dedicated manufacturing capacity for its batteries from existing manufacturers. StoreDot signed a SPAC merger in 2025 at a valuation of $800M. The merger was cancelled in 2026 after the company could not secure $30M in cash for its operations. Financial journalists estimated in February 2026 that StoreDot has funding for a few more months of operations.

The reconstituted Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) was commissioned by the Dutch government to maintain order and to disarm the rebels. Moluccan professional soldiers formed an important part of this army. The Moluccan community was thus regarded by the Dutch as allies and vice versa. The government of the Netherlands had promised Moluccans that they would get their own free state and independence back in return for assisting the Netherlands. After international efforts could not support the Netherlands to maintain its colony, the Dutch government chose to no longer keep its promise to Moluccans of an independent state. Moluccans, who were seen by the Indonesians as collaborators with the Dutch, were given two options: to demobilize the military force and "temporarily" go to the Netherlands before returning to an independent Maluku, or to assimilate and take on the Indonesian nationality. Most Moluccans who served in the command of KNIL chose the first option, which was to reside temporarily in the Netherlands. Upon arriving in the Netherlands, Moluccans were discharged from military service, and housed in repurposed WWII concentration camps, including in the former Westerbork transit camp, where they were isolated from Dutch society and held under extremely poor living conditions for years.

=== Short-term effects === Insufflating (snorting) cocaine commonly causes increased mucus production due to irritation and inflammation of the nasal passages. This irritation leads to symptoms such as a runny nose, nasal congestion, and excessive or thickened mucus. Acute exposure to cocaine has many effects on humans, including euphoria, increases in heart rate and blood pressure, and increases in cortisol secretion from the adrenal gland. In humans with acute exposure followed by continuous exposure to cocaine at a constant blood concentration, the acute tolerance to the chronotropic cardiac effects of cocaine begins after about 10 minutes, while acute tolerance to the euphoric effects of cocaine begins after about one hour. With excessive or prolonged use, the drug can cause itching, fast heart rate, and paranoid delusions or sensations of insects crawling on the skin. Cocaine can induce psychosis characterized by paranoia, impaired reality testing, hallucinations, irritability, and physical aggression. Cocaine intoxication can cause hyperawareness, hypervigilance, psychomotor agitation, and delirium. Consumption of large doses of cocaine can cause violent outbursts, especially by those with preexisting psychosis. Acute exposure may induce arrhythmia, including atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, and ventricular fibrillation. Acute exposure may also lead to angina, heart attack, and congestive heart failure.
== Early life and education == Cooper has said she became interested in science at the age of nine, when she learned that Isaac Newton had discovered gravity. Cooper attended King Edward VI Community College in Totnes. She completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemistry at the University of Warwick. === Systemic use === Prednisolone is a corticosteroid drug with predominant glucocorticoid and low mineralocorticoid activity, making it useful for the treatment of a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions such as asthma, uveitis, pyoderma gangrenosum, rheumatoid arthritis, urticaria, angioedema, ulcerative colitis, pericarditis, temporal arteritis, Crohn's disease, Bell's palsy, multiple sclerosis, cluster headaches, vasculitis, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, autoimmune hepatitis, lupus, Kawasaki disease, dermatomyositis, post-myocardial infarction syndrome, and sarcoidosis. Prednisolone in lower doses can be used in cases of adrenal insufficiency due to Addison's disease.
